Eyelashes

Eyelashes are a detail that stands out most in close-up photos and side-on views of the doll. There are two ways to make eyelashes on a silicone doll. As with eyebrows, availability depends on the head type.

Type 1 — False Eyelashes

The eyelashes are ready-made false strips, glued to the doll's eyelid during production. These are ordinary false eyelashes, the exact same kind used by real women.

Features

  • The only option available for a soft head.
  • The lashes may come unstuck over time. It's usually the inner or outer corner of the strip that lifts first. This isn't a defect, but a feature of this type of eyelash that appears over time.
  • A lifted strip is easy to fix back on with false eyelash glue.

If a strip comes off completely, don't throw it away. Eyelashes can be reattached in a minute using false eyelash glue from any cosmetics shop. You can also replace them with any other false eyelashes: it's a simple way to change the expression in the doll's eyes.

Caring for false eyelashes

  • Avoid the eye area when washing the face. Water and friction weaken the glue.
  • Don't pull on the eyelashes when handling the eyes, for example when swapping eyeballs.

Who this suits

For a soft head, this is the only option. For other head types, false eyelashes are worth considering mainly as a way to save money (if the brand charges for it, though it's almost always a free option). It's also the most practical option: replacements cost next to nothing and are done by hand.

Type 2 — Implanted Eyelashes

Each lash is implanted into the eyelid edge by hand. The lashes get a natural growth direction, uneven length and density, just like a person's. In close-ups and side profile, the difference from false eyelashes is very noticeable.

  • Only available for a hard head and a ROS head.
  • Lashes hold most securely in a hard head, as the eyelid material is denser there.
  • Implanted eyelashes can't be replaced. Unlike a false strip, a lash that falls out doesn't grow back.

Caring for implanted eyelashes

  • Avoid the eye area when washing. Blot the area around the eye socket.
  • Be especially careful when swapping eyeballs or adjusting the gaze: don't catch the lashes with your fingers or tools.
  • Don't brush the eyelashes. If they stick together, gently separate them with a dry finger.

Any implanted hair is prone to shedding, and it doesn't grow back. Eyelashes sit in an area that's often disturbed during eye and face care. How long they keep their fullness depends entirely on how careful you are.

Who this suits

If you want maximum facial realism, or you're planning to photograph the doll, add implanted eyelashes. Close-ups and portrait angles look genuinely lifelike with them. In our view, this is an essential modification. Painted eyelashes are only worth choosing if you're worried about damaging implanted ones.
