How to Wash Your Doll

How to Wash Your Doll

The Main Principle: Wash Gently and Not Too Often

The doll's material does not regenerate. Every wash strips a little oil out of TPE and polishes the surface of silicone (wearing down the texture). So the goal is not sterile cleanliness, it is removing dirt with the least possible impact.

Two key rules:

Gentle, infrequent washing always beats frequent, aggressive washing. Over-care dries out TPE, speeds up wear, and ruins the texture. Frequently washing the entire surface of a silicone doll can wear away the paint layers and make her body less realistic. Aggressive washing also "erases" the relief and texture of a silicone doll.

Moisture must not get inside the body. Odor, mold, and skeleton corrosion do not start with dirt. They start with water that was never dried out.

Everything else in this guide follows from these two points.

Full Wash or Spot Cleaning

A full-body wash is needed far less often than beginners think. In most cases, it is enough to clean the contact areas and flush the canals without touching anything else.

SituationWhat to do
The doll just arrived from the factoryFull wash is mandatory: the skin has oils, dust, and packaging debris on it
After useSpot cleaning of contact areas plus flushing the functional openings
Visible dirt on one areaSpot cleaning of that area only
Before long-term storageFull wash, then complete drying and talc
Dust and tackiness over the whole body (TPE)Full wash, usually once every few weeks with active use
Routine maintenanceAlcohol-free wet wipe over exposed areas, no water

TPE collects dust and gets tacky faster, so give it a full wash more often. Silicone hardly gets tacky at all and is perfectly fine for months on spot cleaning alone.

How the two materials differ beyond washing is covered in TPE vs Silicone Sex Dolls: Which Should You Choose?

What to Prepare

Water

Warm, never hot. Aim for a range of 30 to 40°C. Hot water deforms TPE and speeds up paint wear on silicone. Boiling water is out of the question in any scenario.

Products

SuitableNot suitable
Neutral soap without fragrance or dyesAlcohol and alcohol wipes
Mild shower gel or a baby washAcetone, solvents, gasoline
Baby shampoo for wigsChlorine-based and abrasive household cleaners
Clean warm waterProducts with essential oils and perfume

If you are unsure about a product, put a drop on an inconspicuous spot, like the inner thigh, and wait an hour.

The best option is a neutral soap in foam form.

Tools

  • a soft sponge or microfiber cloth, with no abrasive side
  • two or three light-colored towels
  • a douche, irrigator, or automatic flushing device
  • long sponges on a stick or tampons for drying the canals
  • an air blower (if you have one)
  • talc (unscented baby powder), mandatory for TPE
  • a basin or container, if you are not washing in the bathroom
  • an absorbent towel (as an alternative to a basin for spot cleaning)

Flushing devices and drying rods are in our Care & Cleaning section, head stands in Stands & Storage.

Washing the Body

Do not submerge the doll in a full bathtub. Water seeps into the skeleton mounting points, the neck joint, and cavities you can never get it out of. The right way: the doll lies or sits, water is applied with a sponge or a weak shower stream (only on the areas that need it), runs down, and drains away.

Step by step

  1. Remove the clothing, the wig, and, if the connector allows, the head. Lay the doll on a towel in the bathroom, or on a covered bed if you are spot cleaning.
  2. Wet the sponge with warm water and a little soap, then wring it out so it is damp, not wet.
  3. Wipe the skin section by section with light strokes running along the body. No pressure and no circular scrubbing, especially on soft areas, the breasts, and the folds.
  4. In the creases (groin, armpits, under the breasts, between the fingers), go over them with a cotton swab or the edge of the sponge.
  5. Rinse off the soap with a clean damp sponge or a weak shower stream. Direct the water from top to bottom so it does not run into the neck or the canals.
  6. Immediately blot the surface with a towel without rubbing.

A full body wash takes 10 to 15 minutes.

Spot Cleaning Instead of a Full Wash

This is the main care routine after every use. For contact areas and small spots, use an alcohol-free wet wipe or a sponge with soapy water (or foam). Leave the doll on the bed and put a towel under her. How to clean the openings is covered below.

Head and Face

Wash the head separately and as carefully as possible. It carries the makeup, eyelashes, eyebrows, and the finest texture work, and inside is the neck joint, where water must not get in.

If the head is removable (the standard M16 connector on most brands), unscrew it and wash it over the sink. Cover the neck opening with a bag or plastic wrap and secure it with a rubber band.

If the head is not removable, wrap the neck in plastic before washing the body and clean the face only with a wet wipe or a wrung-out sponge.

Do not rub the face. Wipe the lips, eyebrows, eyelids, and blush with blotting motions, otherwise the factory makeup comes off within a few washes.

Do not pour water over the eyelashes. Remove dust from the lashes with a dry, soft brush.

Do not rinse a head with implanted hair under running water. Pour water in a weak, thin stream onto the face only. If you want to clean the scalp, do it in spots.

After washing, dry the head out of direct light. A head stand is best. If you do not have one, lay it face up on a towel.

Functional Openings (Canals)

Flush the canals after every use. There is no need to carry the doll to the bathroom for this. You can do it right on the bed. Put an absorbent towel under the doll's crotch and place a basin or container nearby.

What to flush with

A douche or flushing device. The pressure should be weak. A strong stream does not clean any better, but it does push water deeper than it needs to go.

Step by step

  1. Lay the doll on her back, put a towel under her, and raise her hips slightly with a pillow so the water flows out rather than in.
  2. Introduce warm water with a soap solution into the opening and let it run out into the basin.
  3. Repeat several times with clean water until no more foam comes out.
  4. Move straight on to drying the canals. Do not leave them wet "for later."

Removable Inserts

If the model has a removable vagina, take the insert out, wash it under the tap with soap, dry it separately, and put it back only when dry. Do not forget to clean the doll's crotch area. Even with a removable vagina, the crotch still needs washing.

Drying

Drying is every bit as important as the wash itself. A doll that was not dried properly starts to smell within a few days, and within a couple of weeks mold sets in inside the canals.

Surface

Blot the body with a towel and leave it to air dry at room temperature. Make sure to move the arms away from the torso so the armpits can dry too.

On average, a doll dries in 1 to 2 hours. Check the folds and creases separately, as water lingers there longer.

Canals

  1. Tilt the hips so the bulk of the water runs out.
  2. Insert a dry sponge on a stick, a tampon, or a rolled absorbent tissue, twist it, and pull it out. Repeat until it comes out dry.
  3. Leave the canal open for a few hours, ideally overnight. You can insert a tampon to draw out the remaining moisture.

If you have a dryer, use it as the final step. About 5 minutes of room-temperature air is enough to dry the opening.

What Not to Dry With

SourceWhat happens

Radiator, space heater, towel warmerOver-drying, loss of elasticity, deformation
Direct sunlightFading and material degradation
Clothing, cover, or blanket over a damp dollOdor and mold

Use a hair dryer only on the cool setting and from at least 30 cm away.

Talc and Oil

Talc

After washing with water and drying completely, TPE becomes tacky and starts collecting dust. Talc brings back the matte, velvety finish, and for TPE this step is mandatory.

What works: talc, unscented baby powder (Johnson's Baby).

How to apply: with a powder puff, a large makeup brush, or a soft cloth, in a thin, even layer over the whole body. Brush off the excess. On the face, apply talc with a brush, avoiding the eyes and lips.

If the talc clumps or rolls up, the doll is not dry yet. Wait and try again.

Do not put talc into the doll's openings.

Oil

For TPE, pure mineral oil is acceptable (listed as Paraffinum Liquidum or Mineral Oil, unscented). It is not part of every wash. It is a tool for two situations:

  • spot cleaning sticky marks, cosmetics, and glue residue
  • occasional conditioning of a dried-out area, once every few months, if the skin has become stiff and matte to the point of dryness

Apply the oil to a tissue, not to the skin, avoid the makeup, remove the excess, and once it has absorbed, powder the area.

Never apply oil to a silicone doll. Mineral oil, baby oil, massage oil, and any other oil ruins the surface of silicone. For silicone, water, soap, and talc are all you need.

Hair

Wig

Take the wig off and wash it separately, like any regular synthetic wig:

  1. Comb the dry wig with a wide-tooth comb.
  2. Dissolve a little baby shampoo in cool water, submerge the wig for 10 minutes, and do not rub.
  3. Rinse and blot with a towel without wringing.
  4. Dry on a stand or a jar at room temperature. Comb only after it has dried completely.

A hot hair dryer, combing wet fibers, and storing the wig crumpled are the fastest ways to ruin synthetic hair.

If a wig is past saving, you will find a replacement in our Wigs section.

Implanted Hair

Implanted hair cannot be removed, and a head with it must not be doused with water. Clean the scalp in spots with a wet wipe, wipe the hair itself with a slightly damp cloth, and air dry. Comb rarely and gently: every combing pulls out a few hairs, and they do not grow back.

You can use dry shampoo and a soft damp cloth, but strictly for spot cleaning the area that needs it.

Remember that the doll is an inanimate object, and her scalp does not produce oil. So the hair will not get dirty over time on its own. The only thing that can get it dirty is you.
